This was a meeting for the books, ladies. Not only did we award our first-ever Reservoir Career Women Distinguished Lady Scholarship, we had a few foxes run through the hen house! Unfamiliar with that phrase? Keep reading!
INTRO: Since this was the week before Easter, Arlette Thompson with Mississippi Magazine gave a moving blessing over our delicious lunches, reminding us about the reason for this season. We also gave a big thanks and round of applause to Sue Ellen Gunn, Director of Sales at The Blake, and all around super nice lady that helps facilitate our meetings. Thanks, Arlette and Sue Ellen!
DISTINGUISHED YOUNG LADY SCHOLARSHIP: We are happy to announce the winner of our first annual Distinguished Lady Scholarship: Sarah Grace Mitchell! Sarah Grace Mitchell, at the time of this post, is a senior at Brandon High School, and she easily moved our entire room with her courageous story. Sarah's story has heart-wrenching beginnings: she was given up for adoption in China by her mother due to China's strict "One Child" rule, limiting households to only one child, but was adopted and came to live in the United States. Her adoptive parents made her feel right at home, though, and nurtured and supported her in her studies. Sarah's future educational path includes applying for the MD/PHD program at UMMC, with a backup plan of majoring in medical research. Congratulations to Sarah Grace Mitchell and all her future endeavors!
SPOTLIGHT SPEAKER: Debbie Gould, Fisher Insurance. Debbie came to inform us about insurance services her company offers, with a focus in Long-Term Care Insurance. If you or someone you know are in the market for Life Insurance or Long-Term Care Insurance, call her today at 601-825-7003, or visit them online HERE.
KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Dawn Dugle, author of The Bravo Way: Building a Southern Restaurant Dynasty. Dawn Dugle wears many hats: public speaking, training, and writing, just to name a few. She joined us this past meeting to talk about her most recent book about two gentleman that have become staples in the Jackson, MS, landscape: Jeff Good and Dan Blumenthal, co-owners of restaurants Broadstreet, Sal & Mookies, and Bravo!, the latter of which is soon to celebrate it's 25th anniversary! She shared excerpts from the book, and we were even joined by Jeff and Dan for a question/answer period, and they stayed to sign books! Want to read for your self how they built a restaurant empire in our capital city? Buy your signed copy HERE today!
ON THE MENU: This month's fare did not disappoint: we had a mixed greens salad with strawberry vinaigrette, baked chicken breast smothered with cheese and bacon crumbles, mashed potatoes, green beans, roll, and baklava for dessert!
